Dough Ingredients

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F) and sugar. Stir in the active dry yeast and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Mix until a rough dough forms, then turn it out onto a floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let it Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Flatbread Assembly

  1. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a baking stone or baking sheet inside to heat.

  2. 6

    Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide it into two equal portions. Roll each portion into a circle about 1/4 inch thick.

  3. 7

    Prepare the Toppings

In a small bowl, combine minced garlic, fresh herbs, and sea salt. Brush the tops of the flatbreads with olive oil and sprinkle the garlic-herb mixture evenly over them.

  4. 8

    Bake the Flatbreads

Transfer the flatbreads to the preheated baking stone or sheet. Bake for about 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.

  5. 9

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Serve warm, either as a side dish or with dips.
