Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.

  2. 2

    Cook Penne Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.

  3. 3

    Mix Marinara Sauce

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked penne pasta with the marinara sauce. Stir well to ensure the pasta is evenly coated.

Cheese Mixture

  1. 4

    Prepare Cheese Mixture

In another bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

Assembly

  1. 5

    Layer the Casserole

In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, add half of the pasta and marinara mixture as the first layer. Spoon half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the pasta. Add a layer of mozzarella cheese, then repeat the layers with the remaining pasta, ricotta mixture, and top with the remaining mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.

Baking

  1. 6

    Bake the Casserole

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

  2. 7

    Let it Cool

Once baked, remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for about 5-10 minutes before serving.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve with Sides

Serve the baked penne casserole with your choice of house salad, Caesar salad, or soup on the side.
