Flan Mixture
Caramel Sauce
Method
Prepare Caramel
- 1
Make the Caramel
In a saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the granulated sugar and water. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves.
- 2
Cook the Caramel
Continue to cook without stirring until the mixture turns a deep amber color, about 8-10 minutes. Immediately remove from heat to prevent burning.
- 3
Pour Caramel into Mold
Quickly pour the caramel into a round flan mold or individual ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.

- 5
Pour Mixture into Mold
Carefully pour the flan mixture over the hardened caramel in the mold(s).
Bake the Flan
- 6
Prepare Water Bath
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a large baking dish by placing the flan mold(s) inside and filling the baking dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan mold.
- 7
Bake the Flan
Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes or until the flan is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 8
Cool and Refrigerate
Remove the flan from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature. Once cooled, cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Serve the Flan
- 9
Unmold the Flan
To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it from the mold. Invert a serving plate over the mold and flip to release the flan.
- 10
Enjoy
Slice the flan and serve chilled, allowing the caramel sauce to drizzle over each slice.
