Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tomatoes

Open the can of whole tomatoes and pour the contents into a medium bowl. Use your hands to crush the tomatoes into smaller pieces and set aside.

  2. 2

    Sauté the Garlic

Peel and mince the garlic cloves. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant and slightly golden.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Add the crushed tomatoes to the saucepan with the sautéed garlic. Stir in the dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Mix well to combine all ingredients.

  4. 4

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.

  5. 5

    Add Fresh Basil

Tear the fresh basil leaves into smaller pieces and add them to the sauce. Stir well and let it simmer for an additional 5 minutes to infuse the basil flavor.

  6. 6

    Cool and Portion

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the marinara sauce cool slightly. Measure out 8 oz of sauce into a container for storage or serving.
