Frites

Method

Preparation

1

Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into thin strips resembling frites.

2

Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch and makes them crispier when fried.

3

Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

4

Fry the Potatoes

Remove the potatoes from the water and pat them dry with a towel. Carefully add a batch of potatoes to the hot oil, frying in small quantities to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown.

5

Drain and Season

Remove the frites from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. While still hot, sprinkle with salt, paprika, and garlic powder to taste.

6

Serve

Serve the frites hot as a side for your entrées.
