Chicken Strips

Zesty Teriyaki Sauce

Method

Preparing Chicken Strips

  1. 1

    Cutting the Chicken

Slice the chicken breast into strips, approximately 1 inch wide.

  2. 2

    Preparing the Battering Mix

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs and milk until combined.

  3. 3

    Battering the Chicken

Dip each chicken strip first into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then coat it thoroughly in the flour mixture. Place the battered strips on a plate while you heat the oil.

Frying the Chicken

  1. 4

    Heating the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Frying the Strips

Carefully add the battered chicken strips to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the strips to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Making Zesty Teriyaki Sauce

  1. 6

    Mixing the Sauce Ingredients

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and red chili flakes. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.

  2. 7

    Thickening the Sauce

In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Add this to the saucepan and stir continuously until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat.

Serving

  1. 8

    Combining and Serving

Toss the fried chicken strips in the zesty teriyaki sauce until evenly coated. Serve immediately while hot.
