Method

Preparation of Rice

  1. 1

    Cook the Rice

Rinse the white rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a pot, combine the rinsed rice with 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes. Once cooked, fluff with a fork and set aside.

Preparation of Protein

  1. 2

    Cook the Protein

Choose your preferred protein (chicken, shrimp, or tofu). For chicken, dice into bite-sized pieces and sauté in a pan over medium heat until cooked through (about 7-10 minutes). For shrimp, sauté until pink and opaque (about 3-5 minutes). For tofu, cut into cubes and fry until golden brown on all sides (about 8-10 minutes).

Vegetable Preparation

  1. 3

    Chop the Vegetables

Dice the carrot, bell pepper, and green onion. Set aside. Prepare the green peas if using fresh.

Wok Frying

  1. 4

    Wok Fry the Ingredients

In a large wok or frying pan, heat the sesame oil over high heat. Add the garlic (minced) and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Then, add the diced vegetables and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until tender. Add the cooked rice and cooked protein to the wok. Pour in the soy sauce, and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir-fry everything together for another 2-3 minutes until heated through.

Serving

  1. 5

    Serve

Transfer the chow rice to plates, garnish with additional green onions if desired, and serve hot.
