Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Slice the steak into thin strips against the grain. Season with salt and black pepper. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Broccoli

Wash the broccoli crowns under cold water and cut them into bite-sized florets.

  3. 3

    Cook the Rice

If using brown rice, rinse it under cold water. In a pot, combine 1 cup of rice with 2 cups of water (or according to package instructions). Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 45 minutes, or until tender. For white rice, follow similar instructions but cook for about 15-20 minutes.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Sauté the Steak

In a large frying pan or skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the sliced steak and cook for about 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked to your liking. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

  2. 5

    Steam the Broccoli

In the same skillet, add the broccoli florets and a splash of water. Cover and steam for about 4-5 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp.

  3. 6

    Combine and Serve

Return the cooked steak to the skillet with the broccoli. Add soy sauce and toss everything together. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to heat through. Serve over the cooked rice.
