Method
Cooking the Pasta and Broccoli

Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 4 quarts of salted water to a boil.

Cook Pasta
Add the penne pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually about 10-12 minutes, until al dente.

Add Broccoli
In the last 3 minutes of cooking the pasta, add the broccoli florets to the pot. Cook until the pasta is al dente and the broccoli is tender but still bright green.

Drain
Reserve 1 cup of the pasta water, then drain the pasta and broccoli in a colander.
Preparing the Olio Sauce

Sauté Garlic
Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes, until fragrant and slightly golden.

Add Seasoning
Stir in the red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Cook for another 30 seconds.

Add Cheese and Lemon
Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, lemon juice, and a splash of reserved pasta water to create a creamy sauce. Adjust the consistency with more reserved pasta water if needed.

Garnish
Remove from heat and toss in the chopped parsley. Serve immediately, garnished with extra Parmesan if desired.
