Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beans

Rinse the Romano beans under cold water and trim the ends. Place them in a pot of boiling salted water and cook for 3-5 minutes until tender but still crisp. Drain and immerse in cold water to stop the cooking process.

  2. 2

    Make Gomae Sauce

In a bowl, whisk together the sesame paste, soy sauce, sugar, and rice vinegar until smooth. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Grilling

  1. 3

    Grill the Beans

Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Toss the cooled Romano beans with olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Grill the beans for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally until they are charred and tender.

Plating

  1. 4

    Serve the Dish

On a serving plate, arrange the grilled Romano beans, drizzle with gomae sauce, sprinkle puffed rice on top, and garnish with slices of pickled daikon.
