Boil the Pasta
In a large pot, bring water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water.

Cook the Pasta
Add 12 oz of spaghetti or linguine to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Making Clam Sauce

Sauté Garlic
In a large skillet, heat 4 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 4 minced garlic cloves and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Add Red Pepper Flakes
Stir in 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes and cook for an additional 30 seconds.

Add Clams
Pour in 2 cans of clams with their juice into the skillet. If making white clam sauce, also add 1 cup of white wine. For red clam sauce, add 1 cup of tomato sauce.

Simmer Sauce
Let the sauce simmer for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Stir occasionally.

Add 1 tablespoon of chopped fresh parsley and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Stir to combine.
