Boil the Water
In a large pot, bring 4 quarts of water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water.

Cook the Pasta
Once the water is boiling, add the spaghetti or linguine. Cook according to the package instructions until al dente, usually around 8-10 minutes.

Drain the Pasta
Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside. Reserve about 1 cup of the pasta water.
Preparing the Shrimp

Sauté the Garlic
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to let it burn.

Add the shrimp to the skillet. Season with red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally, until the shrimp are pink and opaque.
