Method
Preparation
- 1
Wash and Cut Potatoes
Wash the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt. Peel them if desired, then cut each potato into long, thin strips (about 1/4 inch thick) to create fries.
- 2
Soak the Potatoes
Place the cut fries into a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This step removes excess starch and helps make the fries crispier.
Frying
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
- 4
Dry the Fries
Once the fries have soaked, drain them and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This prevents the oil from splattering.
- 5
Fry the Potatoes
Carefully add a batch of the fries to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry them for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Drain and Season
Use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While the fries are hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
Serving
- 7
Serve Hot
Serve the fries immediately while they are still hot and crispy. Enjoy them as a side dish or snack with your favorite dipping sauce!
