Method
Preparing the Burger Patty
- 1
Form the Patty
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently, being careful not to overwork the meat. Form the mixture into a patty about 3/4 inch thick.
- 2
Broil the Patty
Preheat your broiler. Place the formed patty on a broiler pan and broil for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- 3
Add Cheese
During the last minute of broiling, place a slice of American cheese on top of the patty to melt.
Assembling the Burger
- 4
Prepare the Bun
While the patty is broiling, slice the burger bun in half and toast it lightly if desired.
- 5
Layer the Toppings
On the bottom half of the toasted bun, place the lettuce leaves, followed by the broiled patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, pickles, and red onion slices.
- 6
- 7
Finish Assembly
Place the top half of the bun on the assembled burger and press gently to secure.
