Shrimp Preparation

For Grilling or Blackening

For Frying

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Clean the Shrimp

Rinse the jumbo Gulf shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. If not already done, peel and devein the shrimp, leaving the tails on.

  2. 2

    Season the Shrimp

In a bowl, combine olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Toss the shrimp in this mixture until evenly coated. Let sit for about 15 minutes.

Grilling or Blackening

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat the grill to medium-high heat or a cast-iron skillet over medium heat. If blackening, make sure the skillet is very hot.

  2. 4

    Cook the Shrimp

For grilling, brush the grill grates with olive oil, then place the shrimp on the grill and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until they are opaque and have grill marks. For blackening, melt the butter in the skillet and add the shrimp, cooking for 2-3 minutes on each side until blackened and cooked through.

  3. 5

    Garnish and Serve

Remove the shrimp from the heat, sprinkle with fresh parsley, and serve with lemon wedges.

Frying

  1. 6

    Prepare Breading Station

Set up three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with panko breadcrumbs.

  2. 7

    Bread the Shrimp

Dip each shrimp first into the flour, shaking off the excess, then into the beaten eggs, and finally coat them in panko breadcrumbs.

  3. 8

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 9

    Fry the Shrimp

Carefully add the breaded shrimp to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

  5. 10

    Serve

Serve the fried shrimp with lemon wedges and your favorite dipping sauce.
