Method

Fried Green Tomatoes

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tomatoes

Wash and slice the green tomatoes into thick slices, about 1/2 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Set Up the Breading Station

In one bowl, place the all-purpose flour. In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk. In a third bowl, combine the cornmeal, salt, black pepper, and paprika.

  3. 3

    Bread the Tomatoes

Dredge each tomato slice in flour, shaking off excess. Dip it in the egg and buttermilk mixture, then coat it with the cornmeal mixture, pressing gently to adhere.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Tomatoes

Carefully add the breaded tomato slices to the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried tomatoes from the skillet and drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Serve immediately.

Ranch Dressing

  1. 7

    Mix the Ingredients

In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 8

    Whisk to Combine

Whisk the ingredients together until smooth and well combined.

  3. 9

    Adjust Seasoning

Taste the dressing and adjust salt and pepper to your preference.

  4. 10

    Chill and Serve

Cover the ranch dressing and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving for the best flavor.
