Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease an 8-inch round cake pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a heatproof bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Melt them together over a double boiler or in the microwave in 30-second intervals until smooth. Let it cool slightly.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, large eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Slowly pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture while whisking continuously until fully incorporated.

  5. 5

    Sift Dry Ingredients

Sift together the cocoa powder and salt in a separate bowl to remove any lumps.

  6. 6

    Fold in Dry Ingredients

Gently fold the sifted dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.

  7. 7

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

  8. 8

    Cool the Cake

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Glaze Preparation

  1. 9

    Heat the Cream

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Do not let it boil.

  2. 10

    Melt Chocolate for Glaze

Remove the saucepan from heat and add the dark chocolate. Let it sit for a minute, then stir until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.

  3. 11

    Pour Over Cake

Once the cake has cooled, pour the chocolate glaze over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  4. 12

    Serve Warm

Let the glaze set for a few minutes before slicing the cake. Serve warm for the best fudgy experience.
