Cake Ingredients

Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth (the batter will be thin).

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Make the Frosting

In a large mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, beating until the frosting is smooth and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  2. 8

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a generous amount of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
