Prepare the Coffee Mixture

Brew the Espresso
Brew 2 cups of strong espresso coffee and allow it to cool. If desired, add 1 tablespoon of coffee liqueur for added flavor.
Prepare the Cream Mixture

Whisk the Egg Yolks and Sugar
In a mixing bowl, whisk together 3 large egg yolks and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar until the mixture is pale and creamy.

Add Mascarpone and Vanilla
Gently fold in 1 cup of mascarpone cheese and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract into the egg yolk mixture until smooth.

Whip the Heavy Cream
In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined.
Assemble the Tiramisu

Soak the Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger cookie into the cooled espresso mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.

Layer the Ingredients
In a 9x9 inch dish, arrange half of the soaked ladyfingers in a single layer. Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the ladyfingers.

Repeat the Layers
Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone cream mixture.

Chill and Serve
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. Before serving, dust with cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings if desired.
