Hibiscus Syrup

Method

Making Hibiscus Syrup

  1. 1

    Prepare Hibiscus Flowers

In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of dried hibiscus flowers with 2 cups of water.

  2. 2

    Boil and Simmer

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Strain the Mixture

After simmering, remove the saucepan from heat and strain the liquid through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, discarding the hibiscus flowers.

  4. 4

    Add Sugar

Return the strained liquid to the saucepan and add 1 cup of sugar. Stir over medium heat until the sugar is completely dissolved.

  5. 5

    Cool the Syrup

Remove from heat and let the hibiscus syrup cool completely before using.

Making the Mimosa

  1. 6

    Combine Ingredients

In a large pitcher, combine 3 cups of sparkling wine or Champagne, 1 cup of fresh orange juice, and 1 cup of the cooled hibiscus syrup.

  2. 7

    Stir Gently

Using a long spoon, gently stir the mixture to combine without losing carbonation.

  3. 8

    Serve

Pour the hibiscus mimosa into glasses and serve immediately, garnishing with additional hibiscus flowers or orange slices if desired.
