Method
Preparing the Coffee Mixture
- 1
Brew the Espresso
Brew 1 cup of espresso coffee. If desired, stir in 2 tablespoons of coffee liqueur and 1 tablespoon of sugar while the coffee is still hot. Allow it to cool slightly.
Making the Filling
- 2
Mix Egg Yolks and Sugar
In a mixing bowl, whisk together 3 egg yolks and 1 tablespoon of sugar until the mixture is pale and creamy.
- 3
Add Mascarpone
Fold in 1 cup of mascarpone cheese into the egg yolk mixture until smooth.
- 4
Whip the Cream
In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
- 5
Combine Mixtures
Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined. Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and mix gently.
Assembling the Tiramisu
- 6
Dip Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger cookie into the cooled coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.
- 7
Layer the Tiramisu
In a rectangular dish, arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone filling over the ladyfingers. Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone filling.
- 8
Chill the Tiramisu
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight to allow the flavors to meld.
Finishing Touches
- 9
Dust with Cocoa
Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder. Optionally, sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings for added decoration.
