Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

Fill a large pot with water and add 1 tablespoon of salt. Bring to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Once the water is boiling, add the spaghetti. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually around 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside, reserving a cup of pasta water.

Preparing Bolognese Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.

  2. 5

    Add Garlic

Mince the garlic and add it to the skillet. Cook for another minute until fragrant.

  3. 6

    Cook Ground Beef

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the canned tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.

  5. 8

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the sauce thickens too much, add some reserved pasta water.

  6. 9

    Finish with Basil

Once the sauce has thickened and is flavorful, stir in chopped fresh basil.

Combining and Serving

  1. 10

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the Bolognese sauce. Toss to combine, ensuring the spaghetti is well coated with the sauce.

  2. 11

    Serve

Plate the spaghetti Bolognese, garnishing with grated Parmesan cheese and additional fresh basil if desired.
