Shepherd's Pie Ingredients

Method

Shepherd's Pie Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meat Filling

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground lamb or beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.

  2. 2

Add the chopped onion, carrot, celery, and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté until the vegetables are tender, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 3

Stir in the tomato paste, broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes, then stir in the frozen peas.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Mashed Potatoes

While the meat mixture simmers, boil the cubed potatoes in a large pot of salted water until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain.

  5. 5

Mash the potatoes with butter and milk until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  6. 6

    Assemble and Bake

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). In a baking dish, spread the meat filling evenly at the bottom.

  7. 7

Top with the mashed potatoes, spreading them out to cover the filling completely. Use a fork to create a pattern on the surface.

  8. 8

Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

  9. 9

    Serve

Let the shepherd’s pie cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your hearty meal!
