Instructions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking pan or a cast-iron skillet.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of milk, 2 large eggs, and 1/4 cup of melted butter until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.

  5. 5

    Bake

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan or skillet. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool and Serve

Let the cornbread cool for a few minutes before cutting into squares. Serve warm, perfect for soaking up sauces.
