Method

Burger Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until combined, being careful not to overwork the meat. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties.

  2. 2

    Cook the Mushrooms

In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until they are tender and have released their moisture. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Grill the Patties

In the same skillet or on a grill, cook the beef patties for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties, add a slice of Swiss cheese to each, and cook for another 4-5 minutes until the cheese is melted and the patties are cooked to your desired doneness.

  4. 4

    Toast the Bread

While the patties finish cooking, toast the marble rye bread slices in a toaster or on a griddle until golden brown.

Thousand Island Dressing Preparation

  1. 5

    Mix the Dressing

In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Assembly

  1. 6

    Assemble the Burger

On a slice of toasted marble rye, spread a generous amount of Thousand Island dressing. Place the cooked burger patty with melted Swiss cheese on top, followed by a portion of sautéed mushrooms. Top with another slice of marble rye. Repeat for the remaining burgers.
