Patty Melt Ingredients

Method

Patty Melt Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the marble onions and sauté for about 10 minutes, or until they are soft and caramelized. Season with a pinch of salt and set aside.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Form the mixture into two equal patties, about 1/2 inch thick.

  3. 3

    Cook the Patties

In the same skillet used for the onions, add another tablespoon of butter and increase the heat to medium-high. Once melted, add the beef patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Patty Melt

While the patties are cooking, spread a generous amount of Thousand Island dressing on one side of each slice of rye bread. Once the patties are cooked, place a slice of American cheese on top of each patty, allowing it to melt slightly.

  5. 5

    Grill the Sandwich

To assemble, place one slice of bread (dressing side up) on a clean surface. Top with a cheese-covered patty, followed by the sautéed onions, and then cover with another slice of bread (dressing side down). In the same skillet, grill the sandwich on medium heat for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

    Serve

Once the patties are grilled to perfection, remove from the skillet, slice in half if desired, and serve hot with extra Thousand Island dressing on the side.
