Chili Base

Method

Chili Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Ground Beef

In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

  2. 2

    Sauté Onions and Garlic

Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot with the beef. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onions are translucent.

  3. 3

    Add Tomatoes and Beans

Stir in the canned diced tomatoes (with juice) and canned kidney beans (drained and rinsed) into the pot.

  4. 4

    Season the Chili

Add chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper to the mixture. Stir well to combine.

  5. 5

    Simmer the Chili

Pour in 1 cup of water and bring the chili to a simmer. Cover and cook for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Serving

  1. 6

    Prepare Toppings

While the chili is simmering, prepare the toppings by dicing additional onions and shredding the cheddar Jack cheese if not pre-shredded.

  2. 7

    Serve the Chili

Ladle the hot chili into bowls. Top each serving with shredded cheddar Jack cheese, diced onions, and a handful of Fritos chips.
