Fried Potatoes
Cheese Topping
Optional Garnish
Method
Prepare the Potatoes
- 1
Wash and Cut
Wash the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water. Cut them into thin strips or wedges, about 1/4 inch thick.
- 2
Soak
Soak the potato strips in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch. This helps achieve a crispier fry.
- 3
Dry
Drain the soaked potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
Fry the Potatoes
- 4
Heat Oil
In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry Potatoes
Carefully add the dried potato strips in batches to the hot oil. Fry them for about 4-5 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Drain and Season
Remove the fried potatoes from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels. While hot, season with salt and black pepper.
Make Cheese Topping
- 7
Mix Cheese Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded cheddar cheese, cream cheese, garlic powder, and chopped green onions. Mix until well combined.
Assemble the Cheese Fry Stack
- 8
Layer the Ingredients
On a serving platter, create layers by placing a generous portion of fried potatoes at the bottom. Top with a layer of the cheese mixture.
- 9
Repeat Layers
Continue layering fried potatoes and cheese mixture until all ingredients are used, finishing with the cheese mixture on top.
- 10
Garnish
If desired, garnish the top with sour cream and chopped jalapeños before serving.
