Preparations

Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Pan
Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with some of the melted butter.

Melt Butter
Melt the unsalted butter in a saucepan over low heat or in the microwave.
Filling

Mix Filling Ingredients
In a bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, chopped almonds, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon. Mix well.
Layering

Add Filling
Spread half of the nut mixture over the layered filo pastry.

Continue Layering
Layer 4 more sheets of filo, buttering each one as before. Then add the remaining nut mixture and top with another 8 buttered filo sheets.
Baking

Cut the Baklava
Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes before baking.

Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes or until golden brown.
Honey Syrup

Prepare Honey Syrup
In a saucepan, combine water, granulated sugar, honey, and vanilla extract. Bring to a boil and then let it simmer for about 10 minutes.

Pour Over Baklava
Once the baklava is done baking, immediately pour the hot honey syrup over it, allowing it to soak in.
Cooling

Cool Before Serving
Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving to let the syrup absorb.
