Method
Preparation
- 1
Cut the Potatoes
Wash the russet potatoes thoroughly. Peel them if desired, then cut them into thin strips (about 1/4 inch thick) to create fries.
- 2
Soak the Potatoes
Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This removes excess starch and helps achieve crispiness.
Cooking
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature.
- 4
Dry the Potatoes
After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels. This step is crucial for achieving crispy fries.
- 5
Fry the Potatoes
Carefully add a batch of fries to the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Drain the Fries
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- 7
Season the Fries
While the fries are still hot, season them with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Toss to ensure even coating.
