Cake Directions
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease an 8-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
- 2
Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a heatproof bowl, combine the chopped dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Melt them together over a pot of simmering water, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- 3
Mix Sugar and Eggs
In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and eggs until well combined. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- 4
Combine Mixtures
Gradually pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, stirring constantly to prevent the eggs from scrambling.
- 5
Add Dry Ingredients
Sift in the cocoa powder and add a pinch of salt. Fold gently until just combined.
- 6
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- 7
Cool and Serve
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then carefully transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve with local fruit compote and vanilla cream.
