Preparation
- 1
Wash the Cranberries
Rinse the fresh cranberries thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt or impurities.
- 2
Combine Ingredients in a Pot
In a large pot, combine the washed cranberries and 4 cups of water.
Cooking
- 3
Boil the Mixture
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, until the cranberries have burst and softened.
- 4
Strain the Juice
After simmering, remove the pot from heat. Use a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to strain the liquid into another container, discarding the solid cranberry skins.
Sweetening and Flavoring
- 5
Add Sweeteners
While the juice is still warm, stir in 1 cup of granulated sugar until fully dissolved. Taste the juice, and if you prefer it sweeter, add honey to taste.
- 6
Add Lemon Juice
Stir in 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice to enhance the flavor of the cranberry juice.
Serving
- 7
Chill and Serve
Allow the cranberry juice to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled. Serve over ice or chilled in a glass.
