Cake Batter

Vanilla Cream Suspension

Chocolate Ganache

Method

Cake Batter Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  2. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.

  4. 4

    Add Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water to the batter. It will be thin, but this is normal.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the batter into two greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Vanilla Cream Suspension Preparation

  1. 7

    Whip the Cream

In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream and powdered sugar. Use an electric mixer to whip until soft peaks form.

  2. 8

    Add Vanilla

Add the vanilla extract to the whipped cream and mix until well incorporated.

Chocolate Ganache Preparation

  1. 9

    Heat the Cream

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer, but do not let it boil.

  2. 10

    Melt the Chocolate

Remove the saucepan from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate, stirring until melted and smooth.

  3. 11

    Cool the Ganache

Allow the ganache to cool slightly before using it as a topping.

Assembly

  1. 12

    Layer the Cakes

Place one layer of the cooled chocolate cake on a serving plate. Spread a generous layer of the vanilla cream suspension on top.

  2. 13

    Top with Second Layer

Place the second layer of cake on top of the cream layer.

  3. 14

    Pour Ganache

Pour the slightly cooled chocolate ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  4. 15

    Chill and Serve

Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to set the ganache before slicing and serving.
