Fried Green Tomatoes

Method

Fried Green Tomatoes

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tomatoes

Wash and slice the green tomatoes into 1/2 inch thick slices. Sprinkle with salt and let sit for 15 minutes to draw out moisture.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate bowls, place flour in the first, buttermilk in the second, and a mixture of cornmeal, black pepper, and remaining salt in the last.

  3. 3

    Bread the Tomatoes

Dredge each tomato slice in flour, then dip in buttermilk, and finally coat with the cornmeal mixture. Set aside.

  4. 4

    Fry the Tomatoes

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the breaded tomato slices in batches, frying for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

Korean BBQ Beef

  1. 5

    Marinate the Beef

In a bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil. Add the sliced beef and mix to coat. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours in the refrigerator.

  2. 6

    Cook the Beef

Heat a grill or skillet over high heat. Remove the beef from the marinade, and grill or pan-fry for about 2-3 minutes per side until cooked to your liking.

  3. 7

    Add BBQ Sauce

Once cooked, drizzle the ghost pepper BBQ sauce over the beef and toss to coat.

Assembly

  1. 8

    Plate the Dish

On a serving platter, layer the fried green tomatoes, and top with the Korean BBQ beef. Sprinkle crumbled goat cheese over the top and garnish with chopped green onions.
