Preparation of Ingredients
- 1
Prepare the Shrimp
Peel and devein the shrimp, removing the shell and any veins. Rinse under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
- 2
Prepare the Batter
In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Gradually add the cold water, stirring until the batter is smooth and thick enough to coat the shrimp.
Cooking Process
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large, deep frying pan or pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature for accuracy.
- 4
Fry the Shrimp
Dip each shrimp into the batter, ensuring it is well coated. Carefully place the battered shrimp into the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- 5
Cook the French Fries
In the same oil, fry the French fries according to the package instructions or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Final Assembly
- 6
Prepare the Coleslaw
If using a store-bought coleslaw mix, simply place it in a serving bowl. If making from scratch, combine shredded cabbage, carrots, and your choice of dressing in a bowl.
- 7
Assemble the Plate
On a large serving plate, arrange the fried shrimp, French fries, coleslaw, and slices of bread. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces.
