Method

Prepare the Patty

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until just combined; avoid over mixing.

  2. 2

    Form Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a round patty, about ¾ inch thick.

Cook the Patty

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Pan

Preheat a grill or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip.

  3. 5

    Add Cheese

After flipping, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the patty is cooked to your desired doneness.

Prepare Toppings

  1. 6

    Slice the Vegetables

While the patties are cooking, slice the tomato and onion into rings. Wash and dry the lettuce leaves.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 7

    Toast the Buns (Optional)

If desired, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

  2. 8

    Layer the Ingredients

On the bottom half of each bun, place a layer of lettuce, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese, sliced tomato, and onion. Add ketchup and mustard to taste, then top with the other half of the bun.
