Lasagna Ingredients

Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Cook the Noodles

Boil lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Meat Sauce

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, sauté until translucent. Add Italian sausage, ground beef, and ground veal or pork. Cook until browned. Drain excess fat.

  3. 3

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 4

    Mix the Cheese Filling

In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, eggs, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until smooth.

  5. 5

    Layer the Lasagna

In a full-sized lasagna pan (20"x12"x4"), spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Place a layer of noodles on top, followed by a layer of the ricotta mixture, a layer of meat sauce, and a layer of shredded mozzarella. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of meat sauce topped with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

  6. 6

    Bake the Lasagna

Cover the pan with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

  7. 7

    Let it Rest

Remove from the oven and let the lasagna cool for about 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
