Method
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Cook the Pasta
In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- 2
Make the Mornay Sauce
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the bacon fat and unsalted butter. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until bubbly. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
- 3
Add Cheese and Seasoning
Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt, black pepper, and paprika.
- 4
Combine and Prepare for Baking
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni, mornay sauce, and half of the crispy bacon. Mix until well combined. Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
- 5
Add Topping and Bake
Sprinkle the remaining crispy bacon and bread crumbs over the top of the mac and cheese. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy.
- 6
Serve
Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, then serve warm.
