Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tofu

Press the tofu to remove excess moisture. Cut the tofu into 1 cm thick slices.

  2. 2

    Make the Teriyaki Sauce

In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Stir until the sugar has dissolved.

  3. 3

    Cook the Tofu

Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the tofu slices and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  4. 4

    Add Sauce to Tofu

Pour the teriyaki sauce over the cooked tofu and let it simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the tofu to absorb the flavor. Remove from heat.

  5. 5

    Prepare Sushi Rice

Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice according to package instructions. Once cooked, let the rice cool slightly.

  6. 6

    Prepare the Vegetables

Julienne the cucumber and slice the avocado thinly.

  7. 7

    Assemble the Rolls

Place a nori sheet on a bamboo sushi mat. Spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving a small border at the top. Arrange slices of teriyaki tofu, cucumber, and avocado in a line across the rice.

  8. 8

    Roll the Sushi

Using the bamboo mat, carefully roll the sushi away from you, pressing gently to keep the roll tight. Seal the edge with a little water.

  9. 9

    Slice and Serve

Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into 6-8 pieces. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve with extra soy sauce if desired.
