Method

Cake Preparation

1

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s at the right temperature when you place the cake in.

2

Prepare the Baking Pans

Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. This will help the cakes release easily once baked.

3

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well until evenly combined.

4

Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

5

Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing on medium speed until well combined. The batter will be thick.

6

Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water into the batter. This will thin out the batter significantly.

7

Pour Batter into Pans

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

8

Bake the Cakes

Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

9

Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove them from the pans and place on wire racks to cool completely.
