Cocktail
- 1
Muddle
In a cocktail shaker or mixing glass, place the 4 fresh blackberries, 6 basil leaves and 4 cucumber slices. Add the 0.75 oz fresh lime juice and 0.5 oz simple syrup. Using a muddler, gently muddle just enough to release juices and oils — press firmly on the blackberries to break them but avoid over-muddling the basil (which can become bitter).
- 2
Add spirits & ice
Add 2 oz Tom's Town Vodka to the shaker. Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup or enough to chill well).
- 3
Shake
Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and well chilled.
- 4
Double-strain
Double-strain the cocktail into a chilled rocks glass or a coupe over fresh crushed ice or a large ice cube. Use a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove solids (seeds, bits of basil and cucumber).
- 5
Top & garnish
If desired, top with 1 oz soda water for a lighter, spritz-like finish. Garnish with a cucumber wheel on the rim, a single blackberry perched on the wheel, and a small sprig of basil tucked beside it.
- 6
Serve
Serve immediately with a short stirring straw. Advise the drinker to stir briefly to integrate the soda (if used).
