Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare Ginger Syrup

Peel the fresh ginger root and chop it into small pieces. Place the chopped ginger in a saucepan with 4 cups of water and bring to a boil over medium heat.

  2. 2

    Simmer

Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 30 minutes. This allows the ginger flavor to infuse into the water.

  3. 3

    Strain Ginger

After simmering, strain the ginger pieces from the liquid using a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth, discarding the ginger.

  4. 4

    Add Sugar

While the ginger-infused water is still warm, add 1 cup of granulated sugar and stir until fully dissolved. Remove from heat and let it cool.

  5. 5

    Mix Lemon Juice

Once the ginger syrup has cooled, mix in 1 cup of fresh lemon juice, stirring well to combine.

Final Assembly

  1. 6

    Combine with Carbonated Water

In a pitcher, combine the ginger syrup with 4 cups of carbonated water. Stir gently to mix without losing carbonation.

  2. 7

    Serve

Pour the ginger ale into glasses over ice. Optionally, garnish with fresh mint leaves and lime slices to taste.
