Pizza Dough and Toppings
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, mix warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add the flour, salt, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 3
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
- 4
Shape the Pizza
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out to your desired thickness on a floured surface. Transfer to a pizza peel or baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 5
Add Toppings
Spread the tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute evenly over the sauce. Season with salt and pepper.
- 6
Bake the Pizza
Transfer the pizza to the oven (or onto the preheated pizza stone) and bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 7
Finish with Basil
Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately top with fresh basil leaves. Allow to cool for a couple of minutes before slicing.
