Method

Bolognese Sauce Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until softened.

  2. 2

    Add Garlic and Beef

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.

  3. 3

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Once the beef is browned, add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Stir well.

  4. 4

    Deglaze with Wine

Pour in the red wine, scraping any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Parmesan Béchamel Sauce Preparation

  1. 5

    Melt Butter

In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

  2. 6

    Make Roux

Add the flour to the melted butter and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes to form a roux.

  3. 7

    Add Milk

Gradually add the milk while whisking to avoid lumps. Continue to cook and whisk until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 8

    Stir in Cheese and Seasonings

Remove from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until smooth.

Assembling the Lasagna

  1. 9

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 10

    Layer the Ingredients

In a cast iron skillet, spread a layer of Bolognese sauce at the bottom, followed by a layer of lasagna noodles. Repeat the layers, alternating between Bolognese sauce and béchamel sauce, finishing with béchamel on top.

  3. 11

    Add Fresh Basil

Sprinkle the chopped fresh basil over the top layer of béchamel sauce.

  4. 12

    Bake the Lasagna

Cover the skillet with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.

  5. 13

    Rest and Serve

Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
