Method
Preparing the Croque-Monsieur
- 1
Prepare the Ingredients
Gather all the ingredients needed: brioche bread, Madrange ham, Gruyère cheese, unsalted butter, and Dijon mustard.
- 2
Assemble the Sandwiches
Spread Dijon mustard on one side of each slice of brioche bread. Layer 2 slices of ham and a generous portion of grated Gruyère cheese on 4 slices of the bread. Top with the remaining slices of bread, mustard side down.
- 3
Butter the Bread
Spread the softened unsalted butter on the outside of each sandwich.
- 4
Cook the Sandwiches
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
Preparing the Pommes Frites
- 5
Prepare the Potatoes
Peel the potatoes and cut them into thin strips to resemble French fries.
- 6
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 180°C (350°F).
- 7
Fry the Potatoes
Carefully add the potato strips to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 5-7 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
- 8
Drain and Season
Remove the fries with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with salt to taste.
