Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Prime Rib

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Pat the prime rib roast dry with paper towels and place it on a roasting rack in a large roasting pan.

  2. 2

    Season the Roast

In a small bowl, mix the kosher salt, black pepper, minced garlic, rosemary, thyme, and brown sugar. Rub this mixture all over the prime rib, ensuring it is well-coated.

  3. 3

    Sear the Roast

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, sear the prime rib on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  4. 4

    Roast the Prime Rib

Transfer the seared prime rib to the preheated oven. Roast for 15 minutes, then reduce the oven temperature to 325°F (160°C) and continue cooking until the internal temperature reaches 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare, about 1.5 to 2 hours.

  5. 5

    Baste with Butter

During the last 30 minutes of roasting, melt the unsalted butter and baste the prime rib every 10 minutes to enhance the caramelization.

  6. 6

    Rest and Serve

Once cooked, remove the prime rib from the oven and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before slicing. Serve with your choice of sides.
