Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well combined.

- 4
Combine Mixtures
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Carefully stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin).
- 5
Bake the Cakes
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 6
Cool the Cakes
Once baked, remove from the oven and allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- 7
Frosting (Optional)
While the cakes are cooling, you can prepare your favorite chocolate frosting to spread between the layers and on top.
- 8
Serve with Ice Cream
Once the cake is frosted and cooled, serve it with your choice of cinnamon or vanilla bean ice cream.
