Method
For the Mozzarella Sticks
- 1
Prepare the Ingredients
Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls. Place the flour in the first bowl, whisk the eggs in the second bowl, and combine breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper in the third bowl.
- 2
Bread the Cheese Sticks
Dip each mozzarella stick first in the flour, shaking off any excess, then in the beaten eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture. Ensure each stick is fully covered. Place the breaded sticks on a plate.
- 3
Chill the Sticks
Place the breaded mozzarella sticks in the freezer for at least 30 minutes. This helps them hold their shape during frying.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep pot or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
- 5
Fry the Mozzarella Sticks
Carefully add a few mozzarella sticks to the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.
For the Marinara Sauce

- 7
Combine and Simmer
Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and sugar to the saucepan. Stir to combine and simmer for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Finish the Sauce
Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
