Method

Preparing the Patty

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the beef mixture into two equal portions and shape them into round patties, about 1 inch thick. Press a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the preheated grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side until browned, then flip and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.

  3. 5

    Add Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty and cover with a lid to allow the cheese to melt.

Assembling the Cheeseburger

  1. 6

    Prepare the Vegetables

While the patties are cooking, wash and slice the tomato and onion. Separate the lettuce leaves for topping.

  2. 7

    Toast the Buns

If desired, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

  3. 8

    Assemble the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese. Add slices of tomato and onion, then top with the other half of the bun.
