Burger Patty

Whiskey Onions

Spicy Thousand Island Sauce

Method

Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef

In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, buffalo sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.

  2. 2

    Form Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape into burger patties, about 1/2 inch thick.

  3. 3

    Cook the Patties

Grill or pan-fry the patties over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until cooked to desired doneness.

Whiskey Onions

  1. 4

    Sauté the Onions

In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook until onions are soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Whiskey and Sugar

Pour in the whiskey and sprinkle brown sugar over the onions. Continue to cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are caramelized.

Spicy Thousand Island Sauce

  1. 6

    Mix the Sauce

In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, chili sauce, chopped pickles, and hot sauce. Stir well until all ingredients are blended. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Prepare the Bread

Spread butter on one side of each slice of rye bread.

  2. 8

    Assemble the Melt

On the non-buttered side of two slices, spread mustard, place a burger patty, top with whiskey onions, and two slices of American cheese. Top with the other slices of rye bread, buttered side up.

  3. 9

    Grill the Sandwich

In a skillet, grill the sandwich over medium heat, pressing down slightly, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  4. 10

    Serve

Slice the sandwich in half and serve with the spicy thousand island sauce on the side.
